BK virus is a DNA virus belonging to the Polyomaviridae family, which mainly causes respiratory infections in children.If infected in bone marrow or organ transplant patients, BK virus can also cause cystitis, ureteral stenosis, nephropathy, and other complications.
Typically, after experiencing mild cold symptoms through the respiratory tract during childhood, the virus remains dormant in the renal epithelial cells until it is reactivated when the immune system is weakened. Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of rheumatic disease characterized by inflammation in the spinal joints and hip joints, mainly occurring in men between the ages of 16 and 35.
